As lithium-ion batteries become standard in UPS systems and energy storage, fire safety for these systems is increasingly under scrutiny from regulators and insurers. Lehmann's safety cabinets for lithium-ion batteries provide comprehensive protection for battery storage and charging. With a 90-minute fire-resistance rating per DIN EN 14470-1 and optional GS certification, these cabinets ensure maximum protection against fire hazards. The models are tailored to different requirements and feature grid shelves, spill trays, and advanced control units.

Why Fire Safety for Lithium-Ion Batteries Is Becoming More Critical

Lithium-ion batteries have become a core part of modern UPS systems and energy storage, but they carry a specific risk: thermal runaway, where a single failed cell can ignite and spread to neighboring cells. Unlike traditional lead-acid batteries, these fires are difficult to control with conventional means. That's why standards and insurers are tightening requirements around safe storage and charging of these batteries — regardless of location, whether in a server room, technical room, or right next to the UPS system itself.

What the Safety Cabinets Do

Lehmann IT's safety cabinets contain exactly this risk: a 90-minute fire-resistance rating per DIN EN 14470-1 stops a fire inside the cabinet from spreading to its surroundings — or an external fire from reaching the stored batteries. Integrated smoke detectors catch critical conditions early, while self-closing doors with lever operation shut automatically in an emergency, even if left open. GS-certified models additionally undergo independent product-safety testing.

The Right Configuration for Every Requirement

Not every environment has the same requirements: the standard FBL90-170.081.087 model suits applications without a GS requirement and already includes internal ventilation, a smoke detector, and a power-independent extinguishing generator. For higher safety requirements, the GS-certified LIIO-GS2409-90 with a 230V control unit adds grid shelves and a spill tray for leaking liquids. The LIIO-GS2409-9-BL variant adds a 400V control unit and an additional fire-suppression system — for environments with especially high protection needs.
